Installation of SSL in Amazon AWS
In this article, we consider the features of the SSL-certificate installation for Amazon AWS. The entire installation process consists of the following steps: first, you will need to download the SSL-certificates to the section named “Load Balancers” in Amazon AWS console, and then open the port 443.
The first thing we will need to do is log in to Amazon AWS, and then choose section “Load Balancers” in EC2 Dashboard.
The necessary properties will be shown in the lower panel of section Load Balancers. Go to the Listeners tab. It lists all the ports that are currently enabled.
Here we see that Load Balancer Protocol is set to HTTPS, as well as the Load Balancer Port set to 443. At the same time Instance Protocol is set as HTTP, and the Instance Port – as 80.
Without connecting a valid SSL-certificate, transition to the HTTPS protocol will not be implemented. Required procedure described in the next section.
We assume that you already have an SSL-certificate. In case you are not, you can always purchase it from our website by selecting the appropriate option by using the following link.
To download the SSL-certificate, you would need to select Change on the Listeners tab in Load Balancer panel.
In the Certificate Type list, choose the item «Upload a new SSL-certificate to AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM)».
Next, enter the following data:
-
Certificate Name. An arbitrary name of the certificate to track it in the AWS console.
-
Private Key. The content of the private key that was generated on the server when receiving the certificate.
-
Public Key Certificate. The contents of the SSL-certificate file.
-
Certificate Chain. The content of intermediate and root certificates that are required to verify your certificate.
Amazon Web Services work only with PEM-files of SSL-certificates. If your certificate files presented in a different format, you may convert them using our converter.
If you enter incorrect data in any of the fields, AWS will notify you about the error.
Once you save all data, SSL-certificate will be installed in the AWS Amazon.
P.S. A good alternative to Amazon AWS - the use of high-performance e-commerce VPS.
